Prototype-to-Batch Transition

Prepare an approved prototype specification for a repeatable production-batch quote.

Engineering overview

Start with the part and its purpose.

This page focuses on the engineering handoff from a development build to a production batch. It is distinct from the CNC machining service page, which covers the information needed to quote a specific order.

Record what the prototype established

Capture the tested revision, material, finish, assembly findings, and any changes that should carry into the next build.

  • Identify the revision that was evaluated.
  • Record fit or function findings against specific features.
  • Separate accepted requirements from items still under review.

Release a controlled drawing

Before a repeat batch is quoted, align the model, dimensioned drawing, material, and acceptance criteria to the same revision.

  • Update dimensions and notes after design changes.
  • Mark critical interfaces and inspection priorities.
  • Remove superseded files from the request package.

Applications / Manufacturing context

Each build should answer a clear engineering question.

Representative media supports the engineering discussion and does not document a specific customer order.

03 / Project considerations

State batch and repeat expectations

Share the first batch quantity and any likely repeat quantities so pricing can be discussed against the intended order pattern.

  • List quantities by part number.
  • Describe any expected changes between batches.
  • Provide a target date for planning discussion.

Connect the handoff to a quote

A production-batch request should identify what is fixed, what remains open, and which records are needed for acceptance.

  • Attach the current CAD model and drawing.
  • List material, finish, and inspection requirements.
  • Use the batch-production service page to prepare a complete RFQ.

Ready for engineering review

Have a part to make?

Send your drawings and let our engineering team review your project.

We will provide your quotation within 24 hours after we receive complete drawings and project requirements.

Make the requirements clear

Include quantity, material, finish, critical dimensions, and any inspection requirements.
