What We Protect
Confidential project information may include:
- 2D drawings and 3D CAD models
- Product designs and technical specifications
- Materials, tolerances and surface-finish requirements
- Bills of materials and assembly information
- Prototype samples, test results and inspection data
- Target pricing, order forecasts and launch schedules
- Customer, supplier and commercial information
- Quotations, DFM feedback and manufacturing information provided by VELMEC
Information may be protected whether it is supplied electronically, in writing, visually or through physical samples, subject to the terms of the signed NDA.
How Project Information Is Handled
Purpose-Limited Use
Project information is used only as necessary to evaluate, quote, plan and perform the requested services, including DFM review, CNC machining, inspection, finishing, packaging and delivery.
Need-to-Know Access
Access is limited to personnel who need the relevant information to perform their role in the project.
Qualified Manufacturing Partners
Some projects may require specialist finishing, heat treatment, inspection or logistics services.
Where an approved partner is required, only the information reasonably necessary for the assigned work will be shared. The partner must be subject to appropriate confidentiality obligations.
If your project prohibits third-party access or requires prior approval of every service provider, please tell us before submitting detailed files.
No Unauthorized Publicity
VELMEC will not publish or display customer drawings, CAD files, parts, prototypes, project photographs, inspection information, company names or logos without prior written permission.
Permission to manufacture a project does not constitute permission to use it in a case study, website, social-media post, exhibition or advertising material.
Return and Destruction
Return, retention and destruction requirements can be included in the signed NDA. These requirements may remain subject to applicable laws and unavoidable system-backup or record-retention obligations.
Your Intellectual Property Remains Yours
Signing an NDA does not transfer ownership of drawings, designs, inventions, trademarks or other intellectual property.
Except for the limited right required to evaluate and perform the requested project, no licence or ownership right is granted unless both parties agree otherwise in writing.
Ownership of parts, tooling, fixtures, DFM work or other project deliverables should be defined separately in the quotation, purchase order or manufacturing agreement.
How the NDA Process Works
1. Send a Non-Confidential Request
Provide your company name, country, contact information and a general description of the project. Do not attach confidential drawings at this stage.
2. Select the Agreement
You may request VELMEC’s mutual NDA template or submit your company’s NDA for review.
3. Confirm the Terms
The parties confirm the legal entities, permitted purpose, authorized recipients, confidentiality period, partner restrictions, file-handling requirements and governing law.
4. Complete the Signatures
The NDA becomes effective only after it has been accepted and signed by authorized representatives of both parties.
5. Confirm File Transfer
After signing, confirm the appropriate transfer method and any special restrictions before sending detailed technical files.
6. Start the Technical Review
The files required for quotation or DFM review can then be submitted according to the agreed requirements.
Before Sending Sensitive Files
Standard email should not be treated as an end-to-end encrypted file-transfer system.
Do not submit classified, defence-related, export-controlled or otherwise restricted technical data unless VELMEC has confirmed in writing that it can lawfully receive and process that information.
Before sending files:
- Share only the information required for quotation or manufacturing
- Remove unrelated confidential information
- Identify the current drawing and file revisions
- Mark confidential documents where appropriate
- State any restrictions on partner access or data location
- Confirm the agreed transfer method for highly sensitive information
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we use our own NDA?
Yes. You may submit your company’s NDA for review. VELMEC may accept it, request clarification or propose revisions. Submission alone does not make the agreement effective.
Is the NDA mutual?
Yes. A mutual NDA protects customer drawings and project information while also protecting VELMEC quotations, DFM feedback and manufacturing information.
Will manufacturing partners see our files?
Only where their involvement is necessary and permitted under the agreed project terms. If third-party disclosure is prohibited, tell us before sending detailed files so that feasibility can be reviewed.
Will our parts appear on the VELMEC website?
Not without prior written permission. Manufacturing authorization is not marketing authorization.
How long does confidentiality protection last?
The applicable period is defined in the signed NDA. Trade-secret information may require longer protection under the agreement and applicable law.
Is an NDA enough for export-controlled data?
No. An NDA does not replace export licences, regulatory approvals or other legal requirements.
Request an NDA Before Sharing Your Project
Start with a non-confidential request. We can provide a mutual NDA template or review your company’s NDA before detailed CAD files and drawings are submitted.
